Joint Iftar Limited, Idul Fitri Open Houses Prohibited

The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued Circular Letter No. 800/2794/SJ instructing governors, regents, and mayors to limit joint iftars that involve more than a nuclear family plus five other persons. All government officials are also prohibited from organizing any open house ceremonies during Idul Fitri. This regulation was issued to prevent a surge in Covid-19 cases during Ramadan and Idul Fitri.

AmCham-Kominfo Dialogue on the Future of Telecommunications

AmCham Indonesia hosted a virtual meeting with the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) on May 4 on the draft regulation on telecommunications, to address the concerns of information and communications technology (ICT) stakeholders.

The Ministry was represented by the Director of Telecommunications Aju Widya Sari, Coordinator of Legal Affairs and Cooperation Indra Maulana, Sub. Coordinator of Regulation Drafting Husni A Silim, and Sub. Coordinator of Cooperation Ivan Atmanagara. 

Aju gave an overview of the draft regulation, particularly Articles 9-19 related to over-the-top (OTT) services and the International Subsea Cable Communication System (SKKL International). 

This was followed by an engaging Q&A session, where AmCham members had the opportunity to voice their input and concerns. 


Discussing Biden’s Trade Policy and Indonesia’s Economic Future

AmCham Indonesia and HSBC Indonesia co-hosted a Market Updates live webinar, providing insights on US President Joe Biden’s trade policy, its impact on Indonesia’s economic trajectory, and best practices for cash management optimization, on May 5. 

Francois de Maricourt, HSBC Indonesia President Director, opened the event and said positive developments in the US economy, combined with positive reforms in Indonesia, will attract and capture more foreign direct investment (FDI) from US companies. The steps Indonesia takes now will define its future growth trajectory. 

Joseph F. Incalcaterra, HSBC Indonesia Chief Asean Economist, gave a presentation on the HSBC Indonesia Economic Outlook. He said there has been a significant change in consumer behavior in the Asian market following the pandemic, and forward-looking indicators show the potential acceleration of the US economy in the coming months. He was optimistic on the Indonesian investment outlook due to President Joko Widodo’s infrastructure policies and increasing confidence in many fields. 

A panel discussion followed with Murray Hiebert, Head of Research Bower Group Asia, and Robert Blake, Senior Director for McClarty Associates and former US Ambassador for Indonesia. Hiebert discussed Biden’s policies and relations with China, while Ambassador Blake focused on the impact of US policies on ASEAN and Indonesia.

Herani Hermawan, HSBC’s Head of Global Liquidity and Cash Management then gave a presentation on Indonesia’s payment landscape and the future state of cash management. She said fast-paced digitalization due to the pandemic, and collaboration between banks and fintech companies have become more important. 

Closing remarks were made by Eri Budiono, HSBC’s Commercial Banking Director. 


KRL to Operate Until 8 PM During Travel Ban

The operator of the Jabodetabek Commuter Line Electric Rail Train (Jabodetabek KRL), KAI Commuter, will limit the operating hours of trains during the Idul Fitri Eid travel ban on May 6-17, pursuant to Minister of Transportation Regulation No. 13/2021. Trains will only operate until 20.00 WIB, and the Merak Local Train (Rangkasbitung-Merak) will not operate during the period.

According to Regent of Lebak Letter Number 443/1684-GT/2021 on April 29, Cikoya, Maja, Citeras and Rangkasbitung Stations will not serve passengers. The following Jabodetabek KRL routes will only operate from 04.00-20.00 WIB for May 6-17:

  • Bogor/Depok-Jakarta Kota
  • Bogor/Depok/Nambo-Angke/Jatinegara
  • Cikarang/Bekasi-Jakarta Kota
  • Rangkasbitung/Parungpanjang/Serpong-Tanah Abang
  • Tangerang-Duri
  • Tanjung Priok-Jakarta Kota.

How to Apply for SIKM in Jakarta

Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has issued Gubernatorial Decree No. 569 in 2021 on the procedures to apply for exit/entry permits (SIKM) during the mudikban from May 6-17. SIKM applications can be done through the website https://jakevo.jakarta.go.id. To apply, sign up at the JakEvo portal, upload the required documents, and wait for verification from your subdistrict (kelurahan) office. Once your documents have been checked and verified, the subdistrict head will provide an electronic signature on your SIKM. The SIKM will be available for download from the JakEvo site about two days from the date documents are verified. 

Below are the reasons that allow an individual to request an SIKM:

  • Visiting a sick family member
  • Bereavement visits
  • Travelling for pregnant women (accompanied by one family member)
  • Childbirth (accompanied by max. two people).

Indonesia’s GDP Shrunk Q1 2021

Indonesia’s GDP in Q1 2021 shrunk by 0.74 percent compared to Q1 2020, and by 0.96 percent compared to Q4 2020, according to Statistics Indonesia (BPS). Indonesia’s GDP has shrunk for four consecutive quarters, which means it is still undergoing a recession. Inflation for Q1 2021 was 1.37 percent.

AmCham Cares: YCAB Foundation

YCAB Foundation, through Klinik Cinta Anak Bangsa and in collaboration with Terra Klinik and Bali United, organized a drive-thru for elderly people and teachers to receive vaccinations against Covid-19.

With support from the Ministry of Health, the Jakarta Health Office, and the Jakarta Provincial Government, YCAB Foundation hopes the vaccination program can help expedite the process of providing vaccines to all and stop the spread of Covid-19 in Indonesia.

The first phase of the program successfully administering the vaccine to 74 elderly people, 1,378 teachers, and 13 companions, and the second phase ended today,May 6.
