In the lead up to the Feb 14 Presidential Election, AmCham Indonesia hosted the Political and Economic Outlook Forum 2024, on Jan 29. With the theme Understanding and Anticipating Shifts, it aimed to foster a comprehensive understanding for businesses in navigating the dynamic landscape as Indonesia stands on the threshold of a potentially transformative political chapter.

The session began with remarks from Managing Director of BowerGroupAsia and Vice-Chairman of the AmCham Board of Governors Douglas Ramage, providing an overview of the current political landscape in Indonesia, updates on the 2024 general election and its dynamics, and discussed the potential transition of power and its impact on business and investment in Indonesia.

This was followed by a presentation by Bank Mandiri Chief Economist Andry Asmoro on Indonesia’s economic outlook for 2024, and an assessment of the economic opportunities and risks associated with the upcoming elections, highlighting sectors with promising investment opportunities.

In the Q&A session, participants engaged in thought-provoking discussions on how the election could impact business sectors. Questions around geopolitical influences and global economic trends were also explored, underlining the interconnected nature of Indonesia's economic landscape with the wider world.
