AmCham Indonesia exists to advocate, inform, network and create transparency for the companies affiliated with it. Our first Services Committee Meeting of 2018 brought together professionals from multiple industrial backgrounds and created a platform for discussion. In particular, the discussion space presented itself as a forum for revisiting the past year and raising any potential concerns for the coming year.

The January 24 meeting, held at the American Club with 31 attendees, included members from fields such as relocations, property, hospitality, health, transportation, telecommunications and security. There was representation from the US Embassy, Jakarta, which provided the forum with an idea of the overall position of US trade and investment in Indonesia.

The meeting’s main findings included growth and the importance of investment in the health industry. There were also increases in both the mining and plantation industries.  Topics of interest included the growing interest of Indonesian students to continue their higher education in the US, where previously the focus was on other Western countries such as Australia. Telecommunications is also making a steady improvement

With the upcoming 2018 Asian Games being held in Jakarta, growth is expected in the hospitality and infrastructure based industries. Exports and imports are functioning at a steady pace, and expect to further grow through more business diversification, and variety of shipments. Bank insurance companies have noticed growth within the industry, but predict a plateau this year.

Overall, the meeting revealed the strengths of US based investments, opportunities and weaknesses. The forum created a positive environment for discussion and allowed AmCham partnered companies to express their areas of concern and their positives from 2017.
