Iman Pambagyo, the Director General of International Trade Negotiations at the Ministry of Trade, has won the Gold Standard Award for Policymaker of The Year from Public Affairs Asia. Iman has been a central figure in many international trade negotiations, such as the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) talks with the US.
The award was given largely based on his RCEP work
We first met Iman at the TIFA talks in Yogyakarta in 2016, and he has had many subsequent interactions with AmCham Indonesia. He was interviewed for our bi-weekly newsletter, where he was a passionate advocate for Indonesia’s international trade positions while being keenly aware of international trade rules.
He also spoke of the challenges in explaining to government officials that some positions could be harmful for Indonesia, and to find “win-win solutions” on international trade issues. As in our many conversations with him, it was a very interesting interview and we gained many useful insights.
Congratulations, Pak Iman!
