As the curtain-raiser for this year’s US-Indonesia Investment Summit, we decided to dispense with the speeches and the serious talk. Instead, AmCham Indonesia and the US Chamber of Commerce hosted a gala welcome dinner at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel ballroom in Jakarta. We got what we wants – a relaxed evening of entertainment, networking and great food ahead of the serious summit business that began the following morning, November 2.
Keeping everything moving were performances by the great young singers from PARAGITA, the student choir of the University of Indonesia, and, courtesy of Disney Indonesia, rising star Chilla Kiana, the Indonesian voice of Disney’s newest princess in the animated series Elena of Avalor.
The evening began with PARAGITA singing Indonesia Raya and brief welcoming remarks from AmCham President, Brian Arnold, who set the relaxed tone.
“We decided to kick off this year’s summit on a musical note instead of with a policy speech or an economic analysis,” he said.
More than 100 people attended the event, including US Ambassador Joseph R Donovan. We were pleased to welcome a number of members of the Indonesian House of Representatives as well as bupatis and mayors from around the country to the event. Our friends and partners from the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) and the Indonesian Employers Association (APINDO) were also there for the fun. Several other business chambers attended as our guests.
Making it all possible were the many companies that sponsor the Investment Initiative, especially HE Sampoerna, the lead sponsor for the grand dinner.
