AmCham Indonesia Young Professionals Conduct Business Skills Training for Yayasan Goodwill Students at University of Indonesia
AmCham Indonesia Young Professionals volunteers conducted a business skills training for Yayasan Goodwill students at the University of Indonesia on Saturday, July 30th. Twelve young professionals from diverse careers cooperated to deliver interactive programming for scholarship students going into the professional world.
The event was dynamic consisting of seven units that contributed to student development. First, Young Professionals launched the program by challenging the students with a networking game that took place throughout the day. Students networked with their peers gathering names, birth dates, majors, and passions. The champion of the game networked with 39 people, winning Your Job is Not Your Career, by Rene Suhardono. Next, while the primary presentations and programming were underway, a group of YPs split off to personally review student resumes and conduct practice interviews, preparing Goodwill scholarship winners for the competitive job market.
There were two main presentations coupled with interactive small group activities. The first session focused on how to find the appropriate career track by realizing personal passions. After the presentation, YPs hosted roundtables to tell their career track stories, allowing ample time for students to ask directed questions on what challenges volunteers faced and how they found success. The second presentation explained the "Transformation Inventory" activity that pushes individuals/companies to realize their strengths, weaknesses, life constraints, incredible events, etc. With an understanding of the activity, students wrote up their own transformation inventory and presented their unique situations to small groups.
The AmCham Young Professionals' business skills training directly engaged students on a personal level to help them realize and enhance their future potential. Not only did the event provide direct training via resume review and practice interviews, but it also pushed students to embrace their passions and consider their inner potential. Moreover, the activity fostered students understanding of each other through the networking game and small group presentations. Overall, the event was a great success with both students and volunteers learning and having a lot of fun. AmCham Indonesia Young Professionals plan on hosting another similar event in the future.
